Il circolo vizioso della negatività

Ancora troppe aziende pensano che il successo dipenda da una cultura basata sulla forte pressione, sul drenaggio e lo sfruttamento massimo delle energie delle persone, sulla competizione e la concorrenza. Siamo convinti cioè che lo stress e la pressione spingano le persone a lavorare di più, meglio e più velocemente, ma quello che le organizzazioni a elevata “tensione” spesso non calcolano o sottovalutano, sono i costi nascosti che tali comportamenti producono.

  • Gettate il cuore oltre l’ostacolo (Ancora?!).
  •  Mi aspetto il massimo da te, altrimenti rischiamo richiudere (È la centesima volta che lo dici).
  •  Per me contano i numeri (Quindi di me non te ne importa nulla).
  •  Sì questa idea è bella, ma abbiamo altro a cui pensare (La prossima volta meglio che sto zitto).
  •  Puoi fare quest’ultima cosa prima di andare alla recita di tua figlia? (Allora te lo ricordi ma non ti importa nulla!)
  •  Siamo tutti una grande famiglia (Ti si legge in faccia che non ci credi nemmeno tu!!).

Queste sono solo alcune delle frasi e dei retropensieri più comuni che concorrono a generare incoerenza e mal-essere e che fanno sentire “sotto scacco” l’87% dei lavoratori del mondo (secondo le indagini Gallup).

Sembra un circolo vizioso difficile da interrompere e che fa registrare costi sempre più alti, sia in termini di salute delle persone che di efficacia organizzativa. Lo stress da lavoro causa infatti tra il 60 e l’80% degli incidenti ed è stimato che oltre l’80% di tutte le visite mediche sia dovuto allo stress.

I numeri della negatività non riguardano solo il lavoro, ahimè! Se infatti allarghiamo lo sguardo all’intera società ci accorgiamo che in Italia 11 milioni di persone usano psicofarmaci e in famiglia, all’aumentare dello stress dei genitori, gli adolescenti sono più esposti al rischio di sviluppare dipendenze da alcol o droghe. A tutto questo aggiungici poi che nel mondo sono solo 10 gli Stati esenti da conflitti.. e l’Italia non è tra questi.

Potrei continuare a snocciolarti numeri per ore ma preferisco farti una domanda:

"ti sembra che questa situazione sia sostenibile e che questi numeri possano traghettarci verso un futuro di prosperità e benessere?"

Io credo di no, e non sono la sola, tanto è vero che esistono altri tipi di organizzazioni, capaci di realizzare risultati completamente differenti. Sono luoghi in cui si respira entusiasmo e passione autentica per quello che si fa, in cui si costruiscono relazioni sane, di fiducia e rispetto tra colleghi, in cui i “leader” sanno essere un esempio oltre che di professionalità anche di umanità, in cui il “tu cosa faresti?” è una domanda che nasce dalla voglia di conoscere sul serio il pensiero degli altri, in cui ci si dice “grazie” alla fine di uno scambio di opinioni o di una email. Contesti quindi, in cui le persone si sentono realizzate, perché hanno la possibilità di imparare, crescere, esprimere ciò che sono.

Sono queste le Organizzazioni Positive, luoghi in cui le persone fioriscono e ottengono risultati che superano le aspettative.

Abbiamo ormai a disposizione numeri e ricerche condotte da Istituti e ricercatori autorevoli che dimostrano che una cultura “positiva” è in grado di determinare: +300% d’innovazione (HBR); +44% di retention (Gallup); +37% di vendite (Martin Seligman); +31% di produttività (Greenberg & Arawaka); –125% di burnout (HBR); –66% di assenteismo per malattia (Forbes); –55% di turnover (Gallup).

Quello che provano a dirci questi numeri è che esiste una correlazione molto stretta tra pratiche di lavoro positive (orientate quindi al rispetto e alla cura delle persone) ed effetti sui lavoratori, in termini di soddisfazione personale e benessere e che, a loro volta, innescano comportamenti individuali positivi come il coinvolgimento, la fiducia, la retention. Questo circuito virtuoso di buone pratiche genera risultati positivi per l’organizzazione come la redditività e la produttività. 

Queste organizzazioni esistono già anche nel nostro Paese e il loro successo dipende dal fatto che sanno produrre alcune condizioni capaci di far star bene le persone in modo che possano fiorire. Queste condizioni oggi, grazie alle scoperte della scienza su come funziona l’essere umano, non solo sono oggettive e replicabili in qualsiasi contesto – dalle aziende alle scuole, dagli ospedali ai governi delle nostre città – ma ci offrono la possibilità di manifestare intelligenza superiore e creatività, salute e armonia per noi stessi. di vedere il mondo da altre prospettive, più efficaci per i nostri tempo e sulle quali costruire nuovi e più prosperi modelli organizzativi.
