La “via” dei profumi. Il “senso” del tempo!

I nostri cinque sensi sono la via più autentica di conoscenza, il modo con cui facciamo esperienza diretta del mondo, senza i filtri dei condizionamenti mentali, culturali, sociali. La realtà, attraverso i sensi, si manifesta in tutta la sua verità, così come realmente è. Solo che da adulti, abbiamo dimenticato questa capacità “naturale”, cioè che la natura ci ha consegnato, donandoci un corpo che è un congegno perfetto nei suoi organi e meccanismi di funzionamento. La saggezza è dentro di noi, in ogni nostra cellula. Osservando la struttura, le forme e i meccanismi di funzionamento di ogni singola parte del nostro corpo possiamo decifrare le leggi che governano l’universo, e in realtà potremmo avere delle indicazioni valide anche su come regolare i rapporti tra noi esseri umani..
Esplorare i nostri 5 sensi, recuperare l’uso di quelli meno comunemente valorizzati, se non in alcuni settori specifici, fa parte di quel percorso di unlearning alla base del metodo della felicità.
E cosa dobbiamo disimparare e imparare di nuovo focalizzandoci sul “naso”?
Beh, innanzitutto dobbiamo riconoscere che ne sappiamo poco, e a parte pochi casi, lo usiamo poco. Quanti di noi sanno distinguere l’odore di un cipresso da quello di un abete, solo per fare un semplice esempio. Cogliere le sfumature non è un esercizio di stile, utile solo per esperti degustatori di vini, birre, acque o cioccolate pregiate.. ma un’attitudine che può aiutarci nella vita, perché se non vediamo i “grigi” rischiamo non solo di perderci occasioni ma di perdere l’equilibrio.. “Andare a naso” o “avere fiuto” sono ad esempio modi di dire che collegano conoscenza e olfatto, per sottolineare capacità innate che abbiamo, e dobbiamo solo rispolverare, come la sagacia, l’uso dell’istinto e dell’investigazione di tipo “sottile” per conoscere il mondo.

E qual è il motivo di questa perdita di contatto con uno dei nostri sensi primari? Viviamo nella società delle immagini.. E’ vero che una foto comunica più di mille parole, ma la vista ha decisamente spazzato via tutti gli altri sensi. Dobbiamo riconoscere, ad esempio, che siamo troppo spesso schiavi delle immagini (se fossimo in grado di ascoltare davvero le parole che ci vengono dette, quante discussioni inutili ci eviteremmo?)
Proviamo ogni tanto a mettere in stand-by gli altri 4 sensi e allenare l’olfatto. Perché attraverso i profumi, gli odori, in realtà possiamo imparare a cogliere e apprezzare con più profondità e presenza la bellezza e le meraviglie che ci circondano ogni giorno. Ma soprattutto può aprirsi davanti a noi quel mondo che abbiamo archiviato e segregato lontano lontano nella memoria, e che ci parla appunto di noi, di quando eravamo bambini, dei giochi che facevamo e che tanto rivelavano dei nostri sogni, di ciò che ci piaceva, di cosa era importante per noi. E di tutte le esperienze che abbiamo vissuto, dunque di tutto ciò che siamo. Quante volte abbiamo sperimentato inconsapevolmente la straordinaria capacità di un odore di risvegliare in un istante e d’improvviso un ricordo radicato nella nostra memoria? Come una scintilla, un certo profumo, anche casualmente risentito a distanza di anni, può subito richiamare in noi un’ondata di memorie sopite, lasciando riaffiorare, con dovizia di particolari, le esperienze della nostra vita che pensavamo aver rimosso.
Il naso e gli odori sono infatti i più grandi alleati dei ricordi: un profumo ci permette di viaggiare nel tempo e pone l’olfatto come senso privilegiato dalla memoria, capace di innescare nel “presente”, a seconda dei casi, gioia, nostalgia, malinconia,  o tristezza. Possiamo dire, vere e proprie “emozioni liquide”. La memoria olfattiva ce la descrive Charles Baudelaire:

“Vi sono profumi freschi come carni di bambini, dolci come oboi, verdi come prati, e altri, corrotti, ricchi e trionfanti, che hanno l’espansione delle cose infinite, come l’ambra, il muschio, il benzoino e l’incenso, che cantano i trasporti dello spirito e dei sensi”.

La memoria olfattiva è questo: senti un odore e vedi un ricordo. Vedi un ricordo e provi un’emozione. Abbiamo bisogno proprio di questo per essere felici: provare gioia ma soprattutto far riaffiorare la nostra vera essenza, sepolta probabilmente nei sogni e nei giochi di quando eravamo bambini. Riscoprire chi siamo senza i condizionamenti, chi eravamo prima delle programmazioni culturali e sociali, tornando in contatto con i bambini che abbiamo chiuso e sono raggomitolati in ognuno di noi.

Basta un odore per essere felici? Probabilmente non sarà sufficiente annusare qualche fiore per rispondere alla domanda filosofica “chi sono veramente?”. Ma chiudere gli occhi ogni tanto e immergersi completamente nel presente, respirando a pieni polmoni e assaporando lentamente, può allargare la nostra visione della realtà e magari capiterà di imbatterci nella chiave per aprire la porta della nostra memoria, la nostra personale “madeleine”.
